How to look after your boiler during the winter

Your boiler is the most vital appliance in your home during the winter, so it is important you know how to keep it up and running. There are a few simple ways you can protect your boiler from the cold, keeping it running as it should for years to come! Keep reading to find out more.

Annual servicing

To protect your boiler, the key is annual servicing. Not only is this needed for most guarantees, but it also ensures your boiler is running as safely as possible, without any issues. If we spot any spare parts we can easily get them replaced, as well as ensuring your boiler is running efficiently.

Check your boiler pressure

Your boiler pressure can be found on your pressure guage, and it should ideally read between 1 and 1.5 bar. If this is the case, then you know your boiler is running as it should, with no problems. If it has dipped below this, you can top it up using the instructions from your manufacturers' guide. If you find that it regularly dips, it may be worth calling out a gas engineer to take a closer look at the problem.

Bleed your radiators

If there is any trapped air inside your system, it will present itself as a cold spot on your radiator. This stops your home from heating evenly and efficiently- but, luckily, it can be removed it no time at all. All you need to do is bleed your radiators, using a radiator key or screwdriver. It takes minutes but leaves long-lasting results, helping your home to feel warmer, faster!

Lag your pipes

Investing in pipe lagging is a necessity! At only a few pounds, it protects your outdoor pipes from the harsh winter weather. It can be slipped on in minutes but it protects your pipes for years. Without lagging, there is a risk of your pipes freezing over and even bursting. This is an expensive repair that no one needs, especially not in the winter time.
